| Paul Giesenhagen III (my son) joined me at Skiatook Oklahoma for the OSA (Oklahoma Striper Association) Skiatook tournament.
Though the morning started out windy and cold, We headed out into the dark morning in search of big Striped Bass Hybrids.
Because of time, they were not able to pre-fish, but from previous times on the lake, they had an idea of where the fish would be holding up.
Shortly after cathing their first 5 fish, Paul Senior was putting out a line and as he flipped the bail, the rod bent over, he quickly set the hook and passed the rod over to his son.
Since little Paul is not too big at this point in his life, they found it easier for him to fight fish and control the rod while sitting on the back seat of their Blue Wave boat.
During the fight, there was alot of laughing and encouraging going on, Paul III really gave it his all pumping that rod and bringing in that Hybrid. As the fish got close to the boat, I looked out and saw that it was not just another Hybrid ... but it was a big one and yelled "Money Fish" ... I had little Paul run with the rod to the front of the boat to bring the fish within netting distance and netted Paul III's Money Fish.
Once in the boat there were alot of whops, hollars and high fives ... both of us saying Money Fish ... there was just alot of excitement.
After the fish was put away and all the excitement calmed down .. Paul III asked "Whats a Money Fish".
That fish went on to win Paul III's first NSBA tournament and a day his father will be proud of for years to come!
The Fish .. it was a 10.8lb hybrid, Paul's biggest fish to date! |
